Blue Devils solid in 99-71 win over Sound Doctrine...

Cartersville, GA (Sun. Feb. 18, 2007) - Defense has become a theme of late for the Summer Hill Blue Devils, holding opponents to meager pickings early in ball games, building leads, then maintaining. Sunday's home game against Sound Doctrine Christian Academy was much the same, as Sound Doctrine had trouble finding seems to get open shots in the lane and their perimeter shots were not falling for much of the opening half. The Devils took advantage, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead, then methodically worked out to a 41-19 lead with 4:30 left in the first half. Offensively, Mike Linley was the fuel, hitting three treys and scoring 11 points in the first seven minutes of the game.

But, Cameron Hall hit a three for SDCA, then followed with another 14-foot jumper, to ignite a 17-4 run. SDCA Head Coach, Vacher Hammett employed a full-court press that caused the Devils to falter on three consecutive possessions. Johnny Stephenne was fouled, hitting both freethrows and Hall and Brandon Lenard both got wide open lay-ins after Blue Devil turnovers and Sound Doctrine had turned the momentum and gotten back into the game. Though the Devils still had a 45-36 lead at the half, work had to be done in the locker room.

Summer Hill came back out with a vengeance, rebuilding a twenty point lead behind the same tough team defense that helped set the tone early in the game. Mike Linley scored seven more points, while Chris Morgan (6'0''-G-84, college: Wallace St. CC) and Chris Jones (6'6''-F-82) both scored four points as the Devils stretched its lead out to 78-53. Demarcus James late bucket in the lane gave the Devils its largest lead at 99-66, before Lenard and Richard Lester tallied the final five points for SDCA.

Lenard paced Sound Doctrine with 17 points, while Hall finished with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. Stephenne scored 12 points, as DeTerrence Norwood got nine, Stacey McAlister eight, Shane Burrell four, Malik Edwards and Lester 2 each and Marcellus Miller one.

For Summer Hill, Linley led the way with 20 points on 8-10 shooting and four assists. Chris Jones had 16 points and eight rebounds, Jeff Croft 15 points, including 4-6 from behind the arc, while Chris Morgan had another all-round performance with 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and 2 steals. Michael Reynolds (6'3''-G-84) got 11 points and three steals, and Marcus Henderson (6'8''-F-79) of Cartersville Baseline had 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Rounding out the scoring for Summer Hill, were Demarcus James with six, DeMarlow Simmons four and Dee Henderson two. The Devils moved to 25-5 on the year and move on to face on Tuesday evening, a very good Trinity Ballers team, who stand at 5-1 in City League play.

Notes: The Devils are still in the process of trying to land the Southern Regional tournament and are waiting word on the "go-ahead" from several top programs in the Southeastern area. The Devils 49.2% from the field on 33-67 shooting. Summer Hill made 33 baskets to SDCA's 27, but the big difference was the Devil's aggressivenes to the basket allowed 34 attempts at the charity stripe. The Devils made 25-34, good for 74%. SDCA was 10-11 from the freethrow line as a team.

Baseline gets by Marietta Outlaw, 80-69...

Cartersville, GA (Sun. Feb. 18, 2007) - Rod Ashmore (6'5''-F/G-79) of Cartersville Baseline scored a game-high 26 points, leading the Baseline Warriors past the Marietta Outlaw 80-69 on Sunday evening at JH Morgan Gym. Baseline took the season series 4-0 against the Oultaw (non-plural). Craig Looney scored the 13 of Marietta's first 16 points points, holding a 16-11 lead mid-way through a defensive-minded first half. The Warriors, playing with out guard Joe Montgomery and small forward Chris Jones, were struggling to find any offensive cohesiveness. But, Ashmore stepped up, got hot, scoring seven straight points including a long three from the top of the key to vault Baseline line into the lead at 18-16 with 8:55 left in the half. It would prove to be the last time the Warriors would trail. Baseline took a 34-25 lead into the break.

In the second half, the scoring picked up, but Marietta could not get any closer than six, despite five combined three pointers from Isaac Cook, Larry Knotts (6'6''-F/G-75, college: Columbia) and Derrick Owen. Ashmore continued his scoring ways, hitting three treys and Joe Hamilton (6'6''-F-79, college: Virginia Tech) got going with several dribble-drives. Marietta's Maurice Rhodes kept things with in striking distance for the Outlaw as he contributed eight clutch points in the second half. The biggest difference in the second half for Baseline turned out to be the infusion of offense in the paint by Bobby Rouse, who scored 10 points down the stretch, all in around the lane.

Looney paced Marietta with 19 points, while Rhodes finished with 17, Knott 16 and Cook nine. Owen, who averaged 29.5 in the first two meetings between the two teams, was held to only five points and has seen his offensive opportunities dive dramatically the last two contests.

For Baseline, Hamilton supported Ashmores antics with 17, while Antonio Cook (6'6''-G/F-80) of Cartersville Baseline had 16 and Rouse 10. Orlando Rivera and Bill Swain each netted five and Jay Hall contributed one, as the Warriors improved to 19-3 on the season, and 27-5 overall.

LINLEY & JAMES TAKE OVER SECOND HALF...

Cartersville, GA (Sunday Feb. 11, 2007) - Once the train starts rolling its hard to stop it. The Blue Devils were down early to Ravia Latina-1, but there was an engine in the Caboose Sunday, as the bench came in to push the offense. The Devils opened the game up in the second half, running away with a surprising 119-78 win over a talented, but cold-shooting Ravia squad.

The Devils were supposed to play Ravia JV on Sunday, but when several players had other commitments arise, Coach Jessie Torres had to enlist the services of a couple of players from their top squad. 6'3" shooting-guard Rodney Kirtz, a former Mercer University star, along with 6'5" small forward Leonard Rodriquez and Alfonse Dyer, a 6'10" center from Northwestern State all suited up for Ravia. It would seemingly be a huge test for the Blue Devils, putting their eight-game win streak on the line against a semi-pro lineup. After getting off to a sluggish start, the Devils passed with flying colors.

Summer Hill reaches 20-wins with big win over Shock...

SUMMER HILL BOLTS TO A 105-42 WIN OVER GA POWER SHOCK...

REYNOLDS' 20 PTS LEADS BLUE DEVILS TO 20TH WIN...

Cartersville, GA (January 31, 2007) - Despite playing with out its top two scorers, the Blue
Devils banded together to blow by the Georgia Power Shock, 105-42, in City Open Conference play on Wednesday night at JH Morgan Gym.

Chris Morgan (23.3 ppg) and Chris Jones (14.6 ppg), the Devil's leading scorers, both had
academic duties to tend to and could not participate in the contest. Morgan is a student at
Georgia State, while Jones attends Reinhardt College.

The Blue Devils turned in the ultimate team effort, while playing the best defensive game of
the season. The Devils also wore the white, red and gold Baseline Warrior uniforms, giving
the blue and gold set a deserved breather. The team has taken on the Warrior monicker as an alternate nickname, drawing from the Zen Warrior persona of going into battle prepared to
defeat the opponent with superior conditioning, discipline and knowledge.

Michael Reynolds scored the first seven points of the game and the Devils built a 12-2 lead
in the early going. The Shock later got two buckets from Jamie Williams, followed by a pull
up jumper by Reggie Applin to close to 14-8. That was as close as the Shock would get the
rest of the evening, as Summer Hill shifted into a half-court trapping defense that spurred
an 18-0 run. In the run, DeMarcus James and Marlow Simmons got several transition buckets off turnovers and Jeff Croft nailed two threes. The Devils bolted to a 32-8 lead.
Georgia Power steadied and worked back to an 18-point deficit. But, the Devils broke the
game open with another big push - 15 unanswered points, to close the first half. Marcus
Henderson and Mike Linley each nailed threes in the spurt. But, the hightlight came off of
two Joe Hamilton-fed passes to a slashing Dee Henderson, who finished with nifty kisses off
the glass. Summer Hill went into the break up 60-24.

The Blue Devil defense tightened even more in the second stanza, as the Shock were only able to notch 18 points. Meanwhile, Reynolds and Linley got cranked up again, hitting two threes each. And later, reserves Simmons and Henderson both scored six points and Croft drilled three more tri-fectas, in another second-half stretch that saw the Devils go up by as many as 65 at one point.

Derek Davis led Georgia Power with 12 points, while Jamie Williams and Reggie Applin each
had 10 points. Reynolds led a very balanced Blue Devil attack with 20 points. Reynolds, who also had four steals, has averaged 21.3 points over the last four games. He was followed by Jeff Croft who tallied his first double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Linley dropped four threes to chalk up 12 on the night. Joe Hamilton and DeMarcus James each had 11 points, while Marcus Henderson, Dee Henderson and Marlow Simmons all finished with 10. Daveed Blocker, in his first action since January 17, rounded out the scoring with three points.

Head Coach David Archer said, "I was very pleased with our performance tonight. I was
already concerned facing the Shock, going in they were 2-1 and I had seen them play a tough game in their only loss a couple of weeks ago. I was even more worried once learning that Morgan and Jones would not be able to play. But, I think we may have actually played better, simply because guys knew they needed to step up to fill the void. Defensively we were really good, creating turnovers that generated quick points for us and it opened up the perimeter for Jeff and Mike." Archer went on to say, "It was also good to see Marlow continue his climb back from a mid-season slump, getting involved on both sides of the ball. And, Dee showed what he can contribute athletically with a little more time on the floor. I think we have come in a little more prepared than the other teams in the league at this point,
because of the tough competition we have faced since late October. It was important for our
entire team to get involved tonight, because as the other teams begin to work themselves
into shape, the gap is going to close and we are gonna undoubtedly be involved in a couple
of wars in the weeks to come. I know Trinity, the City team and the Losers are all gonna be
tough to beat. We have set a goal to win this league, but we must be prepared."

Now 4-0 in league-play and 20-5 overall, the Devils will have a much deserved weekend off,
before facing the TRG Stunners next Tuesday evening at 8:00pm. Then, the Fort McPherson
Knights will come into town for a re-match on Sunday February 11th in a 4:30pm tilt at JH
Morgan Gym.

Notes: As a team, the Devils shot 62.3% (43-69) from the field, including 15 of 27 from
beyond the arc (55.5%). The Devils also dished out a total of 21 assists and tallied 20
total steals. The Devils reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight season, after
posting a 23-10 record last year.
