SUMMER HILL TO HOST TRUETT-McCONNELL & OXFORD COLLEGE THIS WEEKEND...
Cartersville, GA - The Summer Hill Blue Devils are early in the third season of existence, and despite experiencing success thus far, this coming weekend may be the most important in the program's history. The Blue Devils men's and women's teams will host three college teams at JH Morgan Gym on Aubrey Street.
Saturday, Summer Hill will host Truett-McConnell College a double-header. The Lady Devils will tipoff versus the Lady Bears at 5:30pm, while the Blue Devils will face the Bears at 7:30pm. It will mark the return of former Cass & Summer Hill star, Mikaiel Carter, who is a sophomore guard at the Cleveland, Georgia college. In the 2004-5 season, Carter led Cass to its first Region Title in over 20 years. In 2005-6, he helped the Blue Devils to a 23-10 record and an 8th place National Ranking in the National Elite Athletic Association (NEAA). Carter has led the 4-2 Bears in scoring thus far this season and had a career high 25 points and seven threes in a victory last week. Summer Hill and Truett split their two men's games last season, with the Lady Devils falling to the Lady Bears in their only meeting.
On Sunday, the Blue Devils will play the second game of a double-header at 4:30pm against the Oxford College Eagles. It will be the first ever match-up between Summer Hill and Oxford. The 3:00pm pre-liminary game will feature the Baseline Warriors semi-pro team against the Atlanta Speedboys, in a re-match of the 2007 SEBL Summer Pro League semi-final.
Summer Hill organizers are hoping for a great supporting crowd this weekend, as it will be the first time the program has hosted college teams on consecutive nights. General Admission will be $4.00, with proceeds going to help fund the Summer Hill operations fund, as well as the JH Morgan Gym refurbishment fund. The Summer Hill Blue Devils program is raising funds to re-open the locker rooms, purchase shot clocks and replace the scoring table and bleachers. Season tickets are also available for $20.00.
Sponsors and Volunteers for game day operations are also welcome. For more info please contact David Archer at 770-606-3764 or darcherjr@yahoo.com. Please visit our website at http://www.leaguelineup.com/summerhill

REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 12, 2007
Summer Hill bows to #19 Wallace State, 87-62...
November 10, 2007 - -- Devils dig hole early, struggle against strong Wallace State squad...
Hanceville, AL - Summer Hill fell behind early against Wallace State on the road and could never rebound, losing 87-62 Saturday afternoon.
Wallace State jumped out to a 9-2 in the early-going, and later built leads of 20-4 and 31-9. Summer Hill struggled to find open looks at the basket in the face of a swarming Lion defense. The Devils worked their deficit down to 38-24 with 1:50 left in the first half, but the Lions closed on a quick 11-0 run to take a 49-24 lead into the intermission. The Lions shot a blistering 63% from the field, including 6-11 from the 3-point line, while holding the Devils to only 9-28 shooting from the field in the first half.
Summer Hill came out strong to begin the second half with three from DeMarlowe Simmons, followed by consecutive steals and buckets by Jay Nelson and Simmons. The Devils would open the half on a 12-2 run, cutting the Lion lead down to 51-35, with 15:30 to go. Wallace called timeout, re-grouped and promptly put any comeback notions by the Devils to rest by reeling off a resounding 22-3 stretch. Wallace eventually built a 31-point cushion, as the Devils seemed to give in.
Though down big, Summer Hill continued to work hard, with reserves Derrick Sams, Brandon Harris and Jerold Wells coming in to provide some defensive intensity. The trio's efforts allowed the Devils to play evenly down the stretch, trimming the Lion lead to 84-62 in the final minutes. Wallace went into spread offense to run out the clock and the Devils could get no more points on the board.
Simmons led Summer Hill (1-2) with 12 points, while Brandon Harris got 11, Scott Windom eight, Sams and Nelson seven each. Marcus Henderson, who came in averaging 19.5 ppg, managed only two points on 1-9 shooting from the field
Summer Hill will now prepare for back-to-back home dates this weekend. Truett-McConnell will come to town Saturday for a double-header, with the women starting at 5:30pm and the men at 7:30pm. On Sunday, Oxford College will visit the Blue Devil men at 4:30pm, with the Baseline Warriors playing a pre-liminary game at 2:30pm. Games will be played at JH Morgan Gym on Aubrey Street in Cartersville.

Devils bounce back, trounce Martinique 104-67...
November 5, 2007 - -- Devils pummel Martinique
Summer Hill Blue Devils 104 Martinique National 67...
Cartersville, GA - After losing their regular-season opener Saturday at South Georgia Tech in Americus, the Summer Hill Blue Devils evened their record in emphatic fashion Monday night, dominating the Martinique National Team, 104-67.
Summer Hill (1-1) jumped out to a 17-3 lead early in the game and took a 59-43 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Blue Devils were outsized by Martinique, as the team from the island in the eastern Carribean Sea had several players 6-foot-6 or taller, but Summer Hill put on a press and was able to force several turnovers.
"We were able to counteract their size with our quickness," said Summer Hill head coach David Archer. "It wasn't that Martinique had slow guards, but we really had a down scrimmage on Sunday and I think that everybody knew they needed to step up their game. The adrenaline level was pretty high from the beginning and the guys' intensity level was high.
"We'd make them miss jumpers and be off to the races. We decided to try the press and the guys began to trap like we planned in practice and were able to convert those turnovers into baskets. We didn't do that in the scrimmage Sunday or at South Georgia Tech Saturday."
With a 16-point halftime lead, Summer Hill kept up the running and gunning in the second half and rolled to a 37-point victory over Martinique.
Former Adairsville High standout Marcus Henderson led a balanced offensive attack for Summer Hill, scoring 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Ex-Woodland star Scott Windom had 13 and nine rebounds, Chris Hill finished with 13 points and six rebounds and Derrick Sams tossed in 12.
DeMarlow Simmons and Brandon Harris chipped in 10 apiece, Terry Albert and Blake King each had nine, Jay Nelson tossed in six with seven assists and Darrell Jones had four points and three steals.
Christian Coppet had a game-high 23 to pace Martinique, which is on a week-long tour of Georgia-based teams. Rodrique Riskwait added 13 in the loss.
Summer Hill is back in action Saturday, when the Blue Devils hit the road to face Wallace State-Hanceville (Ala.). Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
"I think everybody felt good with the way we came out and performed (Monday)," said Archer. "We needed this win going into this weekend at Wallace State. Wallace State was ranked No. 2 in the country for most of last year and now they're No. 19. We didn't want to go in there 0-2."

Jefferson, Brigham lead South Georgia Tech to wins over Summer Hill Post Grad...
AMERICUS, GA - Sharp shooting and domination on the boards helped the South Georgia Tech Jets fend off the Summerhill Prep Blue Devils on Saturday night in their season opener, 92-83.
Freshman DeAntre Jefferson racked up 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Jets (1-0). Overall, the Jets held a 50-33 rebounding edge (22-10 offensive) and a 22-2 edge in second-chance points.
"There's the game right there," said coach Steven Wright. "We were able to find a way to win. I challenged us to continue to crash the offensive glass and fortunately when any team plays zone, which they did for about 36 of 40 minutes, we were able to get some of those offensive rebounds."
The game was tight the entire first half as the Jets trailed by as many six and led by as many as nine. They started the game shooting 2 of 16 before making nine in a row to turn a six-point deficit into a one-point lead. The Jets finished the half making 18 of 27 shots to lead 44-38.
South Georgia Tech used another run in the second half of six field goals in a row and nine of 10 to build a 13-point lead at 76-63. But free throws kept the Blue Devils in the game as they made 21 of 23 attempts.
"It only takes a couple of little runs in a game to win it," said Wright. "We were able to do that and keep them from having any runs. Ultimately, that's what helped us finish. I'm mostly proud of that once we got a 12 to 13-point lead that we kept it the rest of the way."
Jefferson was 11 of 14 from the floor and had eight offensive rebounds, in which he converted five. Wright said while his defense lacked a little, he'll take that production any night because his presence in the post is something his team didn't have last year. "We knew he'd be very good around the bucket, and if he can get that, we have a chance to win a bunch of games," he said.
Justen Bullock came off the bench to score 15 points, and all three of his assists came in the second half on fast breaks in which James Early finished with a layup.
Early finished with 11 points, and Americus native Carlos West scored 14.
The biggest area of improvement that Wright said needs to come quickly is defense. The Jets allowed 18 points more than Wright's goal of 65.
"We have to understand by late in the game what the other guys are capable of doing and shut those things off defensively," he said.
Marcus Henderson, who stands at 6-foot-8, led the Blue Devils with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. He led four players in double figures; Jay Nelson added 19.
South Georgia Tech travels to take on Aiken Tech on Tuesday. Aiken Tech was ranked 28th in the NJCAA preseason poll.
