Cartersville, GA - Games with Playoff Seeding ramifications made things interesting in the SEBL Metro A-League North Division this weekend. Servpro has re-established itself, with a couple of wins in a row, despite playing without the injured Jermaine Spivey. Baseline finally peeked its unpredictable eyes around the corner. Skyline continues to squeek by and in the hunt for the top spot with gutsy play. And Marietta sent the Rage packing again, relegating the unreliable Rome team to the cellar of the SEBL.

Sun., Aug 2nd - SEBL Metro A-League North Scores...

ServPro-1 76 vs BC Howren-1 71... This matchup was a prime example of the parity in the SEBL Metro A-League this summer. BC Howren came in as the 8th place team in the North Division at 1-5 on the summer, while ServPro was tied for first with a 4-2 overall record. Yet, these two teams battled to the end with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout, before ServPro opened up a lead down the stretch that BC Howren couldn't seem to recover from. Larry Cox (6'11''-C-85) proved to be the difference in the middle, as Howren had no answer for the big man. Trailing only 71-68 with under a minute remaining, Mike Howren had a chance to tie the game but couldn't convert from the right wing. ServPro's Shan Finley dropped a tip in and drew a foul. After hitting the freethrow, ServPro led 75-68 and seemingly had the game in hand. Chris Jones (6'6''-F-82) managed to connect on a trey for Howren, but it was too late, as Jay Nelson hit one of two shot at the line to put the game away. Though BC Howren did not pull this game out, the higher seeds better beware once the playoffs start. BC Howren could be one to watch out for! Jones led BC Howren (1-6) with 21 points, while Howren had 14, Kevin Hammitt 13, Marvin Green 12 and Antone Anderson 11. For ServPro, Cox had 20, Shan Finley 19, Jamalcom Griffin 17 and Bobby Smith 13. Nelson finished with five.

Baseline Warriors 60 vs Supreme 56... Changes were in order for the struggling Baseline team. After losing four consecutive games for the first time in team history, the Warriors, were finally able to get absent members, Terrence Hill (6'5''-G-82) and Joe Hamilton (6'6''-F-79), to re-join the team as well as Terrell Turner. The athletic additions to the lineup paid immediate dividends, as Hamilton provided much needed scoring in the middle and shored up the non-existent rebounding for Baseline. It took the better part of the game for things to begin to gel though, as Supreme, who has been a solid team all summer, played very strong and led for three-fourths of the contest, including 26-23 at the half. Golden Ingle drilled a step-back three to start the second half, knotting the score up. But, Supreme's William Francis (6'2''-F) had other ideas as he repeatedly out-hustled his way to extra shots and help his team extend its lead to double-digits well into the second half. Supreme lead by as many as 46-35 with about nine minutes remaining. Baseline's defense stiffened, creating a series of Supreme misses, which in turn triggered a 12-0 run. Mike Linley's lay-in with 7:10 remaining brought Baseline to with in one, then Hamilton later pulled an offensive board and fought his way back up for a bucket to put Baseline up. Supreme continued to fight, but down the stretch Kenny Saunders had a resounding ally slam, Hamilton hit a floater and Ingle iced the win with two clutch free throws in the final seconds. Francis paced Supreme, who slid to 3-4, with 18 points, while Shae Blair had 11 and Carlos Hampton nine. For Baseline (3-4), Hamilton dropped 18, Ingle 16 and Saunders collected six. Baseline played the game without Bobby Brown, Chucky Frierson and Chris Morgan, while Supreme played without Robert McKinney, Kenyatta Baylor and Cedric Ward.

BC Skyline 78 vs BC Knicks-1 75... Skyline with a ever-revolving roster, somehow continues to find a way to work together and manufacture opportunity. The Knicks, who had the chance to take over sole first place in the standings, could not hold on to the lead it built early on and nursed for much of the game. Skyline would not go a way though. Trailing by 12 with under a minute left in the first half, Skyline went on a defensive mission. It started with a three from Andrew Jones, followed by a steal and lay-in by Bo Mason, then another steal by Vincent Johnson, who flipped to Mason for another score with six seconds left in the half. On the ensuing inbounds, Mike Reynolds stole another pass across the middle, shoveled a pass to Jones coming across the lane and he scooped the ball in as the buzzer sounded. Though Skyline still trailed 45-42, they had changed the momentum quickly! With the inside play of Dominique Rouse, and the quick penetration by Tay Barber, the Knicks maintained its small spread though out the second half, but Skyline would never fold. Scott Windom continually fought for put-backs down the stretch, keeping his team close. Down 73-69 win little time left, Jones drove the lane for a bucket. He sank the shot, trimming the Knicks lead to 73-71. Jones got two more at the freethrow line on the next possession to knot it up at 73-all. After a Knicks turnover, Chris Palmore got free under the basket to put Skyline up 75-73 with :28 left on the clock. The Knicks then answered with a power move in the paint from Dominique Holmes, to re-tie the score at 75 with only 16 ticks left. With out calling a time out, Jones brought the ball up and set the offense up on the left side. Windom initially posted then faked the screen at the elbow, Jones started right, then pulled back left and launched a trey that connected with only 1.4 seconds left, putting Skyline up 78-75. The Knicks called a time out, advanced the ball to half-court. On the inbounds the ball went to Barber, who tried to draw a foul by jumping into the defencer from about 25 feet. The buzzer began to sound before he was able to initiate the contact and the game was over. Holmes led the Knicks (4-3) with 23, while Rouse had 21, Barber 15 and Jonathan Johnson 10. Jones poured in 27 for Skyline, while Windom got 10 of his 13 in the second half. Bo Mason also had 12 and Jeff Croft 10 in the win for Skyline, who improved to 5-2 on the season.

Marietta 102 vs Rome Rage 89... Marietta took advantage of the door-step of the SEBL, a Rome Rage team, who can seem to get things together. The Outlaw raced to a 53-33 half-time lead behind the scoring of Courntey George and Rod Ashmore (6'5''-F/G-79) of Cartersville Baseline Warriors, who combined for 26 first half points. The Rage made a late run, behind Jacob Selman's scoring surge, cutting the score to as low as eight in the waning minutes. But, Marietta's lead was never truly in jeapardy and they rode to victory. The win moved Marietta to 5-2 on the summer, while the Rage fell to 2-5. Selman nailed seven treys and scored 25 of his game-high 30 points in the second half. George paced a balanced Marietta attack with 19, while Ashmore had 18, Darrell Waters, 13, Stephon Padmore eight, Chris Brown eight and Isaac Cook six.

Sat., Aug 1st - SEBL City Conference B-League Scores...

BC Sixers 97 vs AWU-Howren 86... Tim Williams raced his way to a season-high 45 points, while Mike Reynolds also had 30 for the Sixers, as they outlasted AWU-Howren, to maintain a slim first place lead in the Eastern Conference of the City Conference.

Summer Hill 69 vs GA Wolverines 55... Summer Hill trailed much of the first half, before finally waking up to over-take a much more competitive GA Wolverines squad. Chris Morgan lead Summer Hil with 21 points.

Chattahoochee-North Metro 83 vs Dalton Wholesale 62... North Metro started strong, building an 11-3 lead early, but DWS fought back and handled much of the first half. Just before half-time, and down 31-26, North Metro went on a 12-2 run to take a 38-33 lead into the break. Dalton again fought back to re-claim the lead, at 43-42, on a Ryan Chattam slam at the 15:30 mark of the second half. But, North Metro's wheels began turning, as the defense sparked a 20-6 run that left DWS dusting off tread marks, and too far back at 63-48.

Cedartown 61 vs Rockmart 74... Rockmart took advantage of a roster depleted Cedartown squad, to move to 2-3 on the season. Cedartown dropped to 2-3 as well, and one spot lower in the West Division standings by virtue of this loss. A once promising season for Cedartown, now looks bleak.
