Windom and Henderson combine for 30 in win over Mercer JV...
Cartersville, GA (Dec. 7, 2007) - The Summer Hill Blue Devils got back on the winning track with a solid 94-67 win over Mercer Unversity's JV Bears on Friday night at JH Morgan Gym. It was a much needed win for the Devils, who after a long lay-off, were very sluggish last weekend in the loss at Truett-McConnell.
Mercer canned a three-pointer to open the game on top, but the Devils' Terry Albert countered quickly with a three. It would mark the only time in the game Summer Hill would trail, as Darrell Jones hit a baseline floater on the next possession. Ahead 9-6 at the 14:52 mark, the Devils' full court pressure would cause the Bears to cough up the ball and help generate a big 15-3 run, to go up 25-9 with 9:43 left in the half. Scott Windom scored 10 in the explosion and came up with three steals. Dee Henderson would come in and bury two treys and score eight points to help Summer Hill build a 49-26 lead by the half.
In the second half, the Devils would continue to share the ball well and play staunch defense, eventually building its largest lead at 81-44. Marcus Henderson and Jay Nelos did the Devils' damage, combining for 18 seconf half points, while Tad Wilkey also nailed a couple of threes. Mercer would make a run of sorts in the latter minutes, cutting the score down to 86-67 with under two minutes remaining. But, the Devil reserves were able to re-stabilize and score the final eight points of the contest.
Shakur led Mercer with 24 points, while Reavis hit 14 and Tigner 11.
For Summer Hill, now 3-4 on the year, Windom had 17 points, six rebounds and five steals, Henderson followed with 13 points and 11 boards. Nelson had 12, Wilkey finished with 11, while Albert and Henderson both got eight. Mike Reynolds, Brandon Harris and Jones all had five, as Marlow Simmons, Chris Brown and Blake Hill each contributed three.
The Blue Devils will try to even their season record on Sunday when they host the newly formed Cedartown Post Grad squad at 4:30pm at JH Morgan Gym in Cartersville. Other games on tap will have the Summer Hill Lady Devils tipping off against the New Horizon Lady Jaguars at 3:00pm, and the Baseline Warriors battling the Macon Grizzlies at 6:00pm. General Admission is $3.00.
