Acworth, GA - The Chattahoochee Technical College men's varsity basketball team will host Snead State Community College on Friday night at JH Morgan Gym in Cartersville. The Golden Eagles are off to a 2-1 start on the young season and look to bounce back from a tough 72-69 loss last weekend to Cleveland State. Christopher Deny, a 6'3" freshman gaurd/forward out of Pebblebrook High School, leads the way for the Golden Eagles while averaging 17 points per game. 6'6" power forward, Leon Coleman (Soph.), is commanding the paint, turning in 14 points and 8.6 rebounds a night thus far. 6'2" gaurd Kenji Breedlove and 6'4" small forward Clifton Cormier, are each contributing 12 points per contest, while 5'7" speedster Brannon Hopkins is chipping in with 9.9 points. The CTC roster also boasts former Cartersville High standout Dominique Richards, who is in his freshman campaign for the Golden Eagles. Tip off at JH Morgan Gymnasium is set for 7:30pm on Friday evening. General Admission is $5.00. CTC students presenting a current student ID are admitted free. On Sunday, Chattahoochee Tech will host a triple-header at JH Morgan Gym, with the women's club basketball team will hosting Roxbury Community College at 3:00pm, while the CTC men's JV team will play BC Howren at 4:30pm, followed Golden Eagles men's varsity versus the Robins Air Force Base Falcons at 7:00pm. |
Smyrna, GA - November 6, 2010 - Cleveland State rolled into town and left the Smyrna Community Center with two victories on Saturday night. The CTC Women's Club team, coming off a tough 75-46 road loss at Chattanooga State on Thursday night, was looking to bounce back in its home opener against Cleveland State. After a competitive start, Cleveland State's defensive efforts began to take a toll on the Lady Eagles. CSCC built as much as a 14 point spread in the first half, before going in to the break up by 11. In the second half, the CTC women fought valiantly. Though falling down by as many as 23, the Lady Eagles mounted a charge, cutting the score to seven at one point. But, the momentum couldn't carry as CSCC downed several threes to thwart the comeback bid. The CTC women fell to 0-2 on the season, while CSCC moved to 2-0. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In what was a hard-fought game for both teams, the Cleveland State men mounted a resounding second half comeback to claim the 71-68 victory over the Golden Eagles The first half saw a see-saw battle, with the lead changing hands numerous times. Cleveland State held a slim lead at the intermission, 39-37. In the second half, after a quick Chatt Tech score, CSCC answered with five points. Again, the lead changed hands several in what was becoming a very exciting contest. Behind the the stepped up defensive efforts, which created transition, and the offensive fuel of Chris Deny, Chatt Tech began to establish some control. Deny's scoring, along several key buckets by Brannon Hopkins and Brian Collier, helped the Golden Eagles build a nine point cushion at 57-48. Conversely, mounting fouls by CTC, allowed Cleveland State to get in the bonus early. Down the stretch, CSCC took forced several tough missed shots by CTC players, then capitalized on hustle baskets, along with clutch free throws, as a result of open court fouls by CTC defenders. The Golden Eagles had a hard time scoring in the half court setting. In the closing minute, Cleveland State got a crucial basket in the paint, to put them up 69-68. The Eagles could not answer on the ensuing possession, forcing a quick foul. Cleveland converted putting them up by three with 10 seconds remaining. The Eagles got the ball down the floor quickly, with plans to score a two quickly or get off a clean look from beyond the three point line. Clifton Cormier got trapped and could not find an open man and had to launch a hail mary from 35 feet that fell short of the rim. The Chatt Tech men slipped to 2-1 overall on the early season and will return to the court on November 11, when Snead State comes to town. Young has been a vital part of the Utah Flash staff since the teams inception in 2007 and adds a wealth of basketball knowledge to the organization. We are very excited to have Kevin take charge of this team and lead us through the 2010-11 season, said Team President Drew Sellers. Kevin has proven himself worthy to join the head coaching ranks. Young has filled various roles within the Flash organization including assistant coach, scout, and director of basketball operations. He has participated in on-court coaching, player development, and has been an important aspect of player personnel decisions for the Utah Flash in its first three seasons. In addition to his time with the Flash, Young has spent time overseas as a head coach in Ireland, Estonia, and China. He is a graduate of Clayton State University where he is a top ten record holder in several statistical categories as a player. Young will assume the head coaching role for the Flash immediately and will look to fill vacancies in the assistant coaching position as well as put together a competitive roster for the 2010-11 season.
