Lilburn, GA (May 17, 2007) - A strong first quarter set the tone for Ravia in an impressive 110-99 win over the Wilson Hardhats in a WBA Eastern Conference regular season match-up on Thursday night at Berkmar High School.
Wayne Arnold (6'4''-G-84) (6'4''-G-84) downed four three-pointers to kick-start the offense, as the Rebels jumped out to a 31-18 lead after one stanza. Robert Cox also had eight points in the early-going. Leroy Davis tried to keep Wilson close with six points.
Wilson began to level out a bit, as Toby Smith (6'10''-C-85) battled for several buckets, clipping into Ravia's lead. The Hardhats were able to trim their deficit to 39-34, before Ravia re-generated, going on a 21-9 stretch to to take a 61-43 spread into the half. Arnold drilled two more treys and Rodney Kirtz (6'3''-G) got six points in the run.
Toby Smith and newly acquired Coco Cofield (6'1''-G-81) pumped some life into wilson in the third period, as the duo combined for 19 points. Though Ravia's offensive production stalled a bit, Adrien Borders (6'0''-G-83) and Evan Brock (6'9''-F-84) managed to score seven and six, respectively, to prohibit a collapse for the Rebels. After three, Ravia held an 81-69 advantage.
The Hardhats were able to cut the lead under double-digits several times in the final period behind big buckets by Cofield and Emanual Jackson, but Ravia was not to buckle on this night. Arnold sank his seventh 3-pointer of the evening, as David Monds (6'8''-F-83) of Oklahoma State University and Brock each contributed three buckets down the stretch to keep Wilson's rally hopes slim. The Hardhats managed to win the quarter 30-29, but could not muster the comeback.
Smith paced Wilson with 29 points, while Cofield debuted with 21. Emanuel Jackson (6'8''-F/C) hit 16, while Davis, after a strong start, fizzled to finish with nine. Tracy Hector also had seven for the Hardhats.
For Ravia, who moved to 2-2, Arnold scored 27 points, on seven of eight shooting from beyond the arc. Brock finished with 21, Cox 20, and David Monds 13. Kirtz and Adrien Borders both reached double-figures with 10. Golden Ingle (5'11''-G-81) got eight and Doug Underwood two. Ravia played with out Joe Hamilton, who sat out nursing a twinged hamstring.
Ravia will return to action on Friday as they host the visiting Maya-USA squad, who is currently 4-1, coming off a tough 138-135 win over Floyd County. Tip off is set for 7:30pm at Berkmar High School in Lilburn, Georgia | | |
