DOTS hands Lakers 2nd straight loss, 70-66...
DOTS continued its surprising success, moving to 4-0 on the season, after defeating the BC Lakers 70-66. DOTS came out strong and sinking its first six shots of the game. DOTS went up 28-14 mid-way through the first half, behind the scoring of Chris Agnes and Antonio Bolton. The Lakers made a 13-2 run before half time, coming back to only trail by two at the break. In the run, Michael Sloan (6'4''-G-84) of Clayton College & State University nailed a couple of threes and Jerome Boyd battled for three buckets in the paint. In the second half, DOTS re-built its lead to 10 at one point, as Langston Nolley got heated up. The Lakers made several runs, but could not keep pace with DOTS's expert shooting down the stretch. The Atlanta Speedboys were down big after a slow start, but made a huge run the second half to claim victory over a Tri-County team that can't seem to get over the hump. Tri-County, who came losers of three close games, looked ready to put it all together on this night. Derrick Allen had the hot hand, hitting four treys in the first half and putting the Crusaders up as many as 10 in the first half. The Speedboys struggled to put it in the hole and went into the break down 26-18. Tri-County pushed its lead out to 31-20 when Mike Jones (6'8''-F/C-83) drove the lane for a dunk, then hit a long-ball. Romel Wright nailed a high-lofting three for the Speedboys and the comeback was on, as DeCourney McGowan suddenly woke up scoring the next 11 points on mid-range jumpers, including an And-1 play. Atlanta's run saw them finally take the lead at 36-35 at the 11:25 mark of the second half. The Speedboys would eventually move out to as much as a seven point spread, but Tri-County didn't just die. Justin Thomas hit a three with just seconds on the clock to get the Crusaders back to with in two, but Chris Campbell answered at the line for the Speedboys to seal the win. Tri County lost another close one, dropped to 0-4, while the Speedboys move to 2-2, righting the ship, after starting the season with consecutive losses.

After a blow-out loss the night before to the Celtics, the Knicks-1 got a shot in the arm from the returning Ricky James and easily handled a slipping Metro Stars club, 74-59. Ricky James, who missed the last couple of games with an eye injury, stepped back on the court and didn't miss a beat. The smooth scoring guard scored 15 of his team-high 24 in the first half, helping the Knicks go in to the half up 39-29. Jesse Wheeler (6'5''-F) and Jamal Johnson (6'7''-C-81) of Soriano BBC (URU) managed seven and six, respectively, in the first half for Metro. In the second half, the Knicks-1 got balanced scoring with Andrew Brown (6'0''-G-82), O'Brian Wilkins and Rae Young getting on the act. Brown, who moved over from South to join the Knicks, hit several nice pull up jumpers, while Wilkins and Young both nailed two threes. Jamal Johnson continued to work hard for Metro, tallying 17 in the second half. But, there was not enough fire power to overcome the Knicks-1 down the stretch. Crunk gets by pesky Gordon squad, 68-55...
Club Crunk, with its ever-revolving roster, got 17 points from newcomer Richard Jeter (6'6''-G/F-80) of Walter Tigers Tuebingen (GER) and held off a Gordon team that never gives up. The two teams traded leads for the first 10 minutes of what was a defensive battle. Gordon actually went ahead 11-10 on a lay-in by Brandon McDaniel with 7:40 to go in the first half. But, Crunk woke up and went on a 15-5 run to close the half. Gavin Montgomery scored two buckets, while Jeter and LT Lockett each hit a three in the half-closing spurt for Crunk. Gordon battled in the second half, fighting back to close to with in a couple of buckets on several occasions, behind the energy of Dion Shamburer, who netted 15 of his 17 total after intermission. But timely jumpers by Jeter and Terico Smothers kept the Highlanders at a distance and William Belton kept the ball in his hands in the latter stages of the game to ensure victory. Belton tallied all of his 15 points in the second half, including going 9 of 10 at the line with Gordon fouling late. Crunk moved to 3-1 on the summer, while Gordon remains winless at 0-4. Celtics outshoot Knicks-1, 97-81...
The Celtics, since dropping its first game, have been on a roll with a high-powered transition offense. After building a 15 point half-time cushion, the Celts coasted in the second half, to hand the Knicks-1 their first loss of the season. Newcomer Lance Tippett of Miles College paced the Celts in the first half with 14 points. Eddie Lee Wilkins continued his hot hand downing 29 points in the losing effort, while John Johnson had 18, Travis Floyd 16 and Blake King 10. Tippett finished with 22 for the Celtics, who moved to 2-1, as Dexter Shaw and Mike Reynolds each netted 20. Andrew Jones also had 12 and Scott Windom chipped in nine.

The Force was not with them on Wednesday night, as Skyline rolled from the opening tip and never stopped. The Force who were competitive for most of the game on Sunday against Jonesboro, just never developed any chemistry during the game and shot miserably. Meanwhile, Skyline who lost on a last second shot to the Celtics on Sunday, took their frustrations out on the foul-shooting Force, by repeatedly executing expert fastbreaks in the first half -- to the tune of a 52-30 spread. Antonio Cook (6'6''-G/F-80) and Chris Jones led the charge for Skyline, as they chalked up 29 points between them. In the second half, Lamar Hudson and J.D. Pollock (6'5''-G) combined for six treys to put a stamp on an impressive win for Skyline. Courtney Gamble paced the Force's offense with 16, while Darrell Wilkins and Roman Gilliam both had 14 and Ivan Jones 13. For Skyline Cook took game-high honors with 33 points, while Jones had 24, Antone Anderson 18, JD J.D. Pollock 16 and Lamar Hudson nine. Skyline moved to 2-1, while the Force plummetted to 0-3.

Victor Saxton has made a great return to the Summer League scene, after being away for two seasons. Saxton took advantage of a post-less Vikings squad by powering his way to 37 points and helping his ServPro-1 squad to a great 3-0 start. ServPro jumped out early and fought off repeated runs by the Vikings, who struggled to balance out its offensive attack without F/C BJ Puckett. Ryan Daugherty downed all his 15 points in the second half to lead the Vikings, while Jeff Croft and Adrien Borders (6'0''-G-83) both had 14 and Jacob Selman had 10. To aid Saxton's 37, Shan Finley tossed in 16, Daniel Hendrix 13 and Rodney Stallings 10. The Vikings fell to 0-3 on the season. Jermaine Spivey sat the game out.

Baseline-1 opened up a competitive game after half-time, wearing down the Warriors with depth. The Warriors hung tough much of the first half, falling down by 10 or more, only to fight back behind Latece Williams (6'8''-F-79, agency: Court Side, college: Marshall) mid-range shooting and Kelvin McConnell's perimeter shots. But, Ronell Wooten and Ernest Scott fueled a late first half run to see Baseline go into the break with a 41-30 lead. After cutting the lead to six in the opening moments of the second half, the Warriors went cold. Baseline didn't slow down reeling off 12 straight to build a 20-point cushion. In all six Baseline players reached double-figures led by Scott's 25. Wooten also had 19, while Joe Hamilton, Golden Ingle (5'11''-G-81) and Anthony Doyley (6'4''-G-83) each netted 14. Shaun Stegall (6'7''-F-85) also contributed 11 and Rod Ashmore five. For the Warriors, Dennis James and Williams both finished with 19, while McConnell had 15 and Bobby Rouse 10. Baseline moved to 3-0, while the Warriors remain winless at 0-3.

South badgers Lakers into loss...
Jonesboro South, after losing its opener, has hit its stride with two straight wins. South led this game virtually the entire way, building a cushion with the inside-outside punch of Xavier Morton (6'9''-F/C-80) and Adrian Jones (6'5''-F/G). Calvin Goss' shooting helped keep the Lakers close. With 7:30 remaining, Jeff Trotter (6'5''-F) drove the lane hard, drawing a foul. Trotter, who thought he given a cheap shot by the South defender, took matters into his own hands. Though an "all out brawl" was prevented, the game was subsequently stopped. Goss led the Lakers with 12 points. Morton and Jones had 11 each for South. Both teams moved to 2-1 on the season.

DOTS continues to impress with its small ball style of play. Metro played tough for 30 minutes, before DOTS's athleticism began to take its toll. DOTS led 31-26 at the half, then began to pull away in the second half as Metro went cold. Brandon Kelly had 17 and Jamal Johnson (6'7''-C-81) 12 for Metro. For DOTS, who moved to 3-0, Langston Nolley downed 22, Xavier Trice 15, Antonio Bolton 11 and Chris Agnes 10.

The Speedboys got their first win on the season, but it wasn't easy against a Gordon team that is increasingly competitive each time they step on the floor. The Speedboys jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half, but Gordon fought back to close to within six by the half. The Speedboys lost momentum, but were able to hang on as the Highlanders battled to force overtime at 49-all. In the OT, the Speedboys veteran play took over as they pushed the ball to the middle, drawing fouls. Dwayne Swain managed a bucket and the team went five of six at the freethrow line to build an insurmountable 56-51 lead. Galvin Shamberger drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it was too little, too late for Gordon. Shamberger led Gordon with 12 points, while Mario Cromer had 10. For the Speedboys, Marcus Byams led the way with 15, while DeCourney McGowan had 12, Swain 11 and Keith Payne six. Gordon fell to 0-3, while Atlanta moved to 1-2 on the season.

Club Crunk got back on the winning track with a 79-75 OT win over Tri-County. Chad Eichelberger hit two big treys in the OT period to give Crunk the spread it needed to hold on for the win. Tri-County fell down early, due to the string of three-pointers by Crunk's L.T. Lockett (6'0''-G-83). They then fought back and actually built a 61-51 lead at one point in the second half. But, Club Crunk regrouped and raced back to take a late lead at 70-69. Crusaders small forward Justin Thomas drew a foul with 2.4 seconds left in regulation. He sank the first freethrow, but missed the second, sending the game to OT. Crunk jumped out quickly in the OT behind Eichelberger's consecutive treys, but Thomas drew Tri-County back to within 77-75 on a long three with 14 seconds left. Tri County was forced to foul after the inbounds, sending Courtney Bradley (6'5''-F-83) of Jacksonville State University to the line with 6 ticks showing. He sank both to ice the game for Club Crunk, who moved to 2-1. The Crusaders, sunk to 0-3, with all losses coming by close margins. Thomas led Tri County with 24 points, while Bryant Tallie had 13 and Mike Crain (6'2''-G) 11. For Crunk, Eichelberger had 18, L.T. Lockett and Bradley 17 each. Charles Belton also had 10.

South toys with Force, before pulling away for 85-66 win...
Jonesboro South, the 3-time Georgia men's open champions, jumped out to a 16-point lead in the first half, behind the long-range shooting antics of Adrian Jones. Jones scored 16 of South's first 18 points, hitting four treys while building a 12 point lead early in the game. South pushed their lead to 35-19, but the Force began to hit their perimeter shots to close the gap. The Force hit seven treys in the first half, led by Darrell Wilkins (6'1''-G-84) and Darrell Jones who had two each. The score was cut to 45-40 by the half and South had a game on their hands. Roman Gilliam downed a three to start the second half and Force cut their deficit to two. The Force had a chance to tie or take a lead a few moments later, but missed the opportunity. Jonesboro's superior size began to go to work, with Xavier Morton sealing himself deep in the lane for easy buckets in the lane. DeJuan Clark got cranked up, scoring several transition baskets and Jonesboro pushed back to a double-digit lead. The Force continued to fight, but the South would answer each run, eventually breaking away on a 12-0 run late in the game, fueled by two more threes by Jones. Wilkins paced the Force with 15 points, while Brian Stevenson and Roman Gilliam each had 11. For Jonesboro, Jones finished with 31, Morton 18, Clark 17 and Myles Abrams 9. Force dropped to 0-2 on the summer, while South moved to 1-1.

Shaw's buzzer beater shocks Skyline...
In a game that saw what appeared to be three game winning shots with under 10 seconds remaining, Skyline was left standing in bewilderment while the Celtics leaped with joy. Skyline tried to play keep up through out the first half, while Mikaiel Carter and Mike Reynolds put on a shooting clinic for the Celtics. Carter who moved over from the Knicks roster to join the Celtics, and Reynolds each nailed four threes in the opening stanza. Chris Jones (6'6''-F-82) had 11 first half points for Skyline. In the second half, Skyline's veteran experience seemed to take control, as Antonio Cook and Stuart Mitchell both hit some big shots. Skyline worked back to take the lead. A nifty needle pass from Mitchell to Alex Cornett put Skyline up 67-62 late. 69-67 with under 20 on the clock and a chance to use time off the clock, Skyline faltered, giving the Celtics the ball back with nine seconds left. The Celtics inbounded to Carter, who hit Shaw on the left wing with a pass. Shaw, faked the defender left and dribbled right, drilling a trey with 5.6 ticks left. Game over right? Wrong! Skyline inbounded to half-court to Chris Jones. Jones took two dribbles and launched a running one hander just out side the right elbow to put Skyline back up 71-70 with only 2.2 seconds showing on the clock. Knowing the clock would stop if a shot was made, Skyline attempted to call timeout to set up their defense. They didn't get the timeout and the Celtics threw a long baseball pass over one outstretched defender and into the hands of Shaw, who turned took one dribble and released a long shot off the glass for the win as the horn sounded. For a stunned Skyline team, Jones led with 19 points, as Antonio Cook had 18, Cornett and Mitchell nine each, Lamar Hudson six and Antone Anderson six. For the 1-1 Celtics, Carter finished with 27, Reynolds 22, Shaw 10 and Chris Morgan and Andrew Jones five each.

Baseline-1 got everyone involved while taking care of business against the Georgia Vikings, who fought to the end, before falling 83-65 to the 2006 North Division Defending Champs. Baseline built at 10-point cushion, leading 19-9 at the 14-minute mark. Golden Ingle led the early attack with a three-pointer and several expert lobs to Ronnell Wooten and Joe Hamilton (6'6''-F-79) of Cartersville Baseline. But, the Vikings got going and closed the score to four, as B.J. Puckett (6'9''-F-83) led a run. Puckett repeatedly got offensive putbacks and had several turn around shots off the glass. Six Baseline players had contributed at least five points in the first half, with Ernest Scott tallying nine. Puckett had 18 in the opening stanza for the Vikings. In the second half, Baseline held off several pushes by the Vikings, with Hamilton and Shaun Stegall get their offense going. Tony Doyley also hit a big three down the stretch to help Baseline cap off the win. Ryan Daugherty scored 11 of this 13 total for the Vikings in the second half. But, it was Puckett who took game high honors with 26 points. Adrien Borders had 11, Mike Howren 10 and Jeff Croft five for the 0-2 Vikings. Baseline got 15 from Hamilton, 13 each from Ernest Scott and Ronell Wooten. Baseline, who moved to 2-0 also got 10 from Stegall, nine from Ingle, Eight from Marcus Henderson and five each from Mike Linley, Doyley and Rod Ashmore.

The Warriors were competitive for the first 20 minutes of the game, before ServPro's high-powered offense took over. Reginald King did all he could to keep the Warriors in the game, downing 16 points including four treys in the first half. But, with out the services of Abraham Treore, the Warriors could not balance out the offense or defense against a deep ServPro roster. After trailing by on six at the break, the Warriors could not keep pace. King finished with 29 on the evening, while Dennis James had 15, Bobby Rouse nine and Kelvin McConnell seven. Shan Finley was unstoppable on this night, shooting 15-19 from the field for 35 points. Jermaine Spivey finished with 19, Mike Dean (6'2''-G-82) 14, Victor Saxton 12 and Rodney Stallings six. The Warriors fell to 0-2, while ServPro-1 upped its record to 2-0.
