Cartersville, GA - The higher seeds in the 1st Round of the SEBL Metro A-League North Division playoffs had an easy go of it on Wednesday night at JH Morgan Gym. The game results and summaries are below...

Skyline 71 Knicks-2 62...
Skyline got out to a double-digit lead in the first half, behind Lamar Hudson's perimeter shooting. He had 16 first half points, including four treys. But, the never say die Knicks worked themselves back in the game, as Eddie Wilkins hit a couple of long range bombs and Jonathan Johnson battled in the paint for buckets. The Knicks slowed Skyline down and only trailed 33-29 at the half. Again, Skyline moved out to a double-digit spread in the 2nd half. Chris Jones (6'6''-F-82) of Summer Hill Blue Devils scored two buckets off put-backs and hit a nice three-pointer to fuel the Skyline run. However, not to fold, the Knicks fought back, and on a Jarmond Bailey penetration and assist to Wilkins, they cut their deficit to 66-62 with under a minute to go. Skyline answered with an inside score by Alex Cornett (6'11''- C), followed by a three by Antone Anderson, to silence the Knick's comeback ideas. Wilkins led the Knicks with 22, while Johnson had 16. OB Wilkins and Bailey each netted 11 in the loss. For Skyline, Cornett had 18, Hudson 16, Anderson 14, Antonio Cook (6'6''-G/F-80) 13 and Jones 10. Skyline will now get a re-match with Baseline-1 in the SEBL Elite Eight on Friday night. Tip off is set for 7:00pm at JH Morgan Gym.

ServPro-1 124 BC Vikings 76...
ServPro-1 opened the flood gates as soon as the referee tossed up the jump ball and they never slowed down for the Vikings. ServPro-1, by half-time had two guys in double-figures and three others with nine points each, to build an insurmountable 59-32 advantage. Jeff Croft and Mike Howren tried to shoot their squad back into the game and managed to cut the ServPro-1 lead down to 13 on two occasions in the second half, but ServPro re-fueled and ran away in the final minutes. Howren and Croft had 30 and 20 respectively, combining for 10 tri-fectas. An injured Carter Deems also punched in 12 for the Vikings. For ServPro-1, Brandon Byers led the way with 31, while Jermaine Spivey (6'3''-G-72) totaled 24. Shan Finley got 18, while Mike Paige and Cam Fitch both tallied 15 and Victor Saxton (6'6''-F-77, college: Cent.Florida) 13. ServPro-1, the #3 Seed will now face #2 Seeded Celtics on Friday night at 8:00pm in Cartersville.

Celtics 84 BC Warriors 64...
The Celtics do what they do best... jump out to big leads early. The Warriors were shell-shocked from the tip, as the Celtics scored 12 unanswered points. Bobby Rouse (6'5''-G/F-76) finally got a freethrow to get the Warriors on the board. The Warriors looked like they may get back into the game, as they chipped the Celtics lead down to six, but the well went dry again. The Celtics took advantage and a sizable 39-21 lead into the break. The Warriors matched the Celtics point-for-point in the 2nd half, but never really threatened the lead. Chris Morgan repeatedly attacked the basket with aggressive penetration and scores. Travis DeGroot (6'3''-G-82, college: Delta St.) led the Warriors with 13 and Bobby Rouse had 12. Reginald King to 11, while Dennis James and Kelvin McConnell both had 8. Morgan and Lance Tippett (6'4''-F, college: Miles) both had 19, for the Celtics, while Mikaiel Carter got 15, Andrew Jones (6'3''-F-83) 11, Dexter Shaw (6'3''-G-89) 10, Mike Reynolds 6 and Reggie King 2. The Celtics move on the the SEBL Elite Eight and will face #3 Seeded ServPro-1 at 8:00pm on Friday evening at JH Morgan Gym in Cartersville.

Baseline-1 115 BC Force 85...
Baseline started a little slow against the Force again, as they did last week. But, it was held to a minimum this time, as the Force led 7-2 in the early going. Last week, Baseline-1 trailed by as many as 20, and by four at the half, before breaking away for a 30-point win. Baseline got cooking with Rod Ashmore getting buckets on the block repeatedly and Marcus McElrath getting six put-back points. Baseline's balanced attack got treys from 5 different players in the first half. Dee Henderson and Darrell Wilkins combined for 16 points before intermission for the Force. Baseline led 56-32 at the break. Rod Ashmore, Ernest Scott (6'7''-F-82) and Golden Ingle (5'11''-G-81) combined for the first 20 Baseline points of the 2nd half, including 4 threes, and with the outcome all but decided, they deferred to the younger reserves. Courtny Gamble was a bright spot in the 2nd half for the Force as he downed 20 of his 26 total point production. Baseline-1 reserves, Kashif Gumbs and Marcus McElrath took over the scoring load the rest of the way. Gumbs broke the defense down with penetration, while McElrath scored eight points in the paint. The game degenerated into a non-defensive dunk-fest the final 2-minutes and Baseline-1 cruised its way to the next round. Henderson and Wilkins finished with 22 and 21 for the Force, while Montero Fezzia had seven. For Baseline-1, Ashmore and Gumbs both had 19, McElrath and Casey Moore 14 each, Anthony Doyley (6'4''-G-83, college: Lee) and Ernest Scott 12 each and Golden Ingle 10. Ronell Wooten also had 8 and Marcus Henderson (6'8''-F-79) 6. Baseline-1 will now move on the SEBL Elite Eight, facing Skyline on Friday night at 7:00pm.

SEBL SOUTH DIVISION PLAYOFF BRACKET 1ST ROUND RESULTS:

#6 ATLANTA SPEEDBOYS 57 #3 BC Lakers 48...
The Speedboys came to play on this night and upset the #3 seeded BC Lakers. From wire-to-wire, the Speedboys looked like a team in command, not like the 2-6 record they came into the playoffs with. With several tough losses in the regular season, and some erratic offense, the Speedboys started the playoffs precariously. But, the inclusion of Brandon Kelley to the lineup has really paid off. Kelley came over to the Speedboys from the Metro Stars during the last week. Marcus Byams stepped out of the post, to hit 2 crucial treys in the 1st half, to help the Speedboys to a good start. The Lakers fell behind by as many as 8, but battled back to go into the half only down 32-31. In the second, the Speedboys were able to keep their lead through ball control and attacking the basket. They make only 5 field goals, but went 14-20 from the line, for the bulk of the offensive production. The Lakers tied the score several times, but could never get over the hump. An untimely drought by the Lakers, allowed the Speedboys to pull out to a 10 point spread. In the final minute, the Lakers threatened by cutting the score to 52-48 when Trey Goss split the lane for a bucket, and Brian Kelly got a couple of free throws. But, the Speedboys anwered at the line with true shots from Brewster and Corey McGowan. Byams provided the offensive spark with 16 points, but Kelley instilled a sense of aggression and balance through out the game, as he scored 11 points, on 4-8 shooting, grabbed 3 huge rebounds and got 2 steals. Billy Brewster, though 3-12 from the field for 11 points, snatched 11 boards for the Speedboys. Kelly and Goss led the Lakers with 12 each. Mike Sloan was held to 6, on 3-9 shooting. The Lakers end the season at 5-4 overall, after enjoying an unblemished championship season last summer. The Speedboys, 3-6 overall, will move on to face DOTS, 6-2, and the SEBL Metro South #1 ranked club.

#2 BLACK MONOP 64 #7 GORDON HIGHLANDERS 41...
Black Monop starts a little slow, before getting the engines running and blowing past the Highlanders, 64-40. Gordon got out to an early 5-0 lead, and later lead 9-4. Black Monop got going and went on a 17-4 run going into the break. LT Lockett got things going with seven points in a 3-minute stretch of the first half. BM led 26-13 at the break. Gordon could not keep up, as BM started the 2nd half on a 13-4 streak. Terico Smothers and Gavin Montgomery controlled the 2nd half, each scoring 11 points, as Monop just rode the wave to victory. Mario Cromer and Brian Davis each had 10 points, for Gordon while Deon Shamburger had eight. Davis also grabbed eight rebounds. For BM, Montgomery finished with 15 pts and 6 rebounds, Smothers 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals and LT Lockett 14 points. Gordon ends the season winless, while the 7-2 Black Monop squad advances to take on the upstart Atlanta Speedboys on Thursday night at 8:00pm.

#4 Tri-County 2 #5 Metro Stars 0...
The Tri-County Crusaders had about an easy of a game as possible in round one. The Metro Stars decided not to show up for the game, giving the Crusaders, now 4-5, the automatic win. Tri-County, who has been one of the hottest teams in the SEBL, since starting the summer at 0-5, now advances to take on #1 seeded DOTS on Thursday at 7:00pm. Metro, comprised mainly of Oxford College players, for the second straight summer has fizzled to a no-show team and subsequently will not be allowed to return to the SEBL.

WEST DIIVISION BRACKET:

#4 BC Howren 81 #5 BC Knicks-2 78...
BC Howren was on fire in the first half, hitting 11 threes as a team. They led 47-34 at the half and by as many as 22 in the second half. But, the Knicks-2 made a stirring comeback, actually took the lead on a Jonathan Johnson layin with 1:02 to go, but Mike Howren drilled a three to put his team back up. Then, the Knicks went back up on a three by Jarmond Bailey. Again, BC Howren got another three from Junior Gonzales. And, the Knicks could not answer again, as Mike Howren got two freethrows to put his team up three. Eddie Lee Wilkins missed a shot to tie at the buzzer. Ricky James led the Knicks with 25 points, while Johnson and Mike Frazier both had 13 and Wilkins 11. Howren downed 31 in the win, while Eric Jarvis had 15, Gonzales 13, Chad Murray 12 and Mark Ezell 10. The Knicks-2 end the season, while BC Howren will move on to face the West Division's #1 Seed in ServPro-2. A tall order for BC Howren.

EAST DIVISION BRACKET:

#4 Future Entertainment 91 #5 Men of Trin 76...
Future Entertainment fought off the Men of Trin, in a tough 91-76 win, to advance to the B-League's Final Eight. Future led the whole way, but had to counter several Trinity runs in the second half. After going up by 14 at one juncture, Future let Trinity climb back in it. Trinity finaly cut the score down to 67-64 on a Jaron Applin dribble-drive. But, Trinity went cold and Future pulled away with several key buckets by Mike Reynolds and Darrell Wilkins. Future made the final score look worse than it was, by going eight of eight from the line in the final 30 seconds. Dexter Shaw hit 6-6 for Future. Applin led Trinity with 20 points, while Ivan Jones hit 19, Darien Ulmers 17, Richard Green 12 and Johnny Washington seven.
