Cedartown, GA (Tues. Jan 8, 2007) – The Cedartown Post Grad Bulldogs out-ran Sound Doctrine Christian Academy, grabbing an impressive 106-93 win in SEBL Independent League action Tuesday evening at the Cedartown Boys & Girls Club.
Sound Doctrine controlled the game early,  behind the one-two punch of Leverette and Poole. Leverette got several buckets in the paint, while Poole nailed four treys. Sound Doctrine moved out to a 33-25 lead with 8:30 left in the opening half. Cedartown coach Mike Atwater pulled his troops out of the zone which paid immediate dividends. The man pressure triggered a 11-2 run, allowing the  Bulldogs to take its first lead, at 36-35, on a Najee Smith lay-in with 4:19 to go in the first half. Smith would then fly high for an alley, slamming it home to give his team a three point cushion. SDCA would bounce back and the lead would change hands several times going into the break. SDCA led 51-50 at the break.
Cedartown came out strong to start the second half, going on 8-0 run. On several Nick Diamond baskets in the middle, the Bulldogs opened up a six point lead. Again SDCA bounced back with baskets from Leverette and Mathiece. Chris Careathers would take advantage of a spread offensive scheme, with consecutive penetration baskets and the Bulldogs would later establish control with their defensive quickness, which forced SDCA into turnovers. As the half proceeded, Cedartown eventually built an 86-76 spread.
SDCA would manage to trim Cedartown's lead to four late in the game, but Smith and Travis Pace came up with key buckets to put the game away.
"We had a comfortable lead, but almost led them back in it by being too aggressive," said Coach Atwater. "We need to be more conservative with a late lead, but we are happy with the win," Atwater added.
Leverett led Sound Doctrine, out of Lagrange (GA), with 33, while Poole downed 30. Matheiu also had 16 and Knight chipped in eight.
For Cedartown, Smith and Careathers paced the offense with 25 and 21 points, respectively. Nick Diamond and Ivy Boozer both had 14, Dennis Glover and Jay Nelson seven each, Travis Pace six, Marcus Pace five, Albert Ware three and Kendrick Sewell two.
Cedartown moved to 2-3 on the season, and will be in action again on January 18 when they host Southern Weslyan JV.
