The Summer Hill Athletic Program Lady Devils amateur team will hold basketball tryouts for the 2008-09 season on November 1st at 1:00pm at JH Morgan Gym on Aubrey Street in Cartersville, GA. * - The Summer Hill Athletic Program is a division of The Human Race, Inc, a Georgia non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Started in 2004, the Summer Hill women's program has provided a positive athletic outlet for women to either continue athletic interests, or even revive athletic pursuits, while competing against colleges, junior colleges, military teams and amateur teams from around the southeast.
 
* - The Summer Hill program is pleased to announce Valerie Linley, who has returned home to Bartow County, has agreed to take over as Head Coach for the Summer Hill Lady Blue Devils. The former Cass High star has an impressive and extensive resume of coaching and sports administrative duties at the highest level of college basketball.
Linley joins Summer Hill after serving as an Assistant Coach the the College of Charleston Cougars for a number of years. Prior to joining the Cougars, she spent two seasons as head coach of the women's basketball team at Chiles High School in Tallahassee, Fla. Prior to her coach stint at Chiles, Linley worked in the Information Studies Department at Florida State as a Web Development Assistant.

The Emerson, Ga., native played women's basketball at Florida State from 1997-99 and was team co-captain as well as a two-time letterwinner. She was also named to the ACC Top Six team in 1999. While a Seminole, Linley served as Team Community Leader from 1998-99. From 1999 to 2001, she served a student assistant coach for Florida State and handled summer camp duties as well as the Courtside Kids Club. Linley also assisted with team practice.

The 1999 ACC honor roll member came to Florida State from Hiwassee Junior College where she played point guard from 1995-97. The team captain left Hiwassee as the career assist leader and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 1997 after being selected as A Dick Vital Junior College Preseason All-American. In 1996 and 97 she was named to the NJCAA All-Conference Team and All-Region Team.
 
While playing for former Cass Head Coach Clarissa Bagwell, Linley helped lead the Lady Colonels to a Georgia State Tournament Final Four appearance.
Linley also has many years of camp experience. Since 2000 she has worked as a counselor at Halo Hoops Basketball Camp and was involved with the Covenant Christian Ministries from 1995 to 2000. In June of 1999, Linley was a camp huddle leader and counselor for the FCA at Valdosta State. Since 2004, Linley has also developed and implemented a free youth basketball camp for the youth of Cartersville and Bartow County. The camp has grown each year since inception.

Linley, who earned her master's degree in Sport Administration from Florida State in 2002, will also be starting a locally-based sporting goods business. She will also assist in the continued development of The Human Race, Inc and Summer Hill Athletic program agenda.
* - The Summer Hill Blue Devils Men's basketball teams will begin their seasons this weekend. With two teams to accomodate the increased interest, the "Blue Squad" will open up this weekend with two contests on the road against Truett-McConnell College and Spartanburg Methodist Community College. The Summer Hill men's Gold Squad play at Reinhardt on November 3rd at 8:00pm, before opening up the home schedule November 5th at JH Morgan Gym at 7:30pm against the men's national team from the French Antilles island of Martinique.
 
* - Volunteers Needed! The Summer Hill Athletic Program will be looking for volunteers to assist with game day operations when the regular season home schedule begins on November 5th. We will be seeking people to assists with score keeping, statistics, camera operator, Music DJ, PA Announcer, admissions, in-game events/promotions, team equipment manager, etc...
