After big win over Truett, Blue Devils head to South GA Tech...

Josh White brings ball up against Truett Saturday night at JH Morgan Gym...

Summer Hill puts perfect record on the line Saturday in Americus...

Cartersville, GA - After a huge 92-84 win over nationally ranked Truett McConnell College last weekend, the 5-0 Summer Hill Blue Devils have gotten off to the best start in its four-year history. The Blue Devils will now have their streak tested against another nationally ranked team in the South Georgia Tech Jets in Americus on Saturday night.

The Blue Devils got out to a strong start, leading by as many as 18-8 early in the game against Truett. But, after key players got in foul trouble, the Bears capitalized while Summer Hill's reserves fought to maintain. Truett battled back and led by as many as seven with a trapping defense that caused the Devils' offense to come a slow crawl. Richard Davis and Darrell Waters provided much needed inside buckets and Tim Fortenberry nailed two long treys to get the local team going again and Summer Hill was able to reclaim the lead, going into the half up 44-39.

In the second half, with the first unit back, Summer Hill was able to work back out to an 11-point spread at one point, only to see foul trouble mount again. Courtney George, Darryl Williams and Joshua White all had to sit for an extended period of time. However, the SH reserves came in ready to relieve this time. Davis played his most steady stretch the entire season, scoring a chuck of timely points with smart shots and freethrows. Jamie King and Nagee Smith also helped to weather the Bear defensive press. The defensive aggressiveness by both teams was "war-like" and produced a lot of freethrow attempts for both team.

Though Duece Jackson and his Truett pack made several runs down the stretch, Summer Hill was able to keep them at bay. Josh White's steal and slam with just over a minute left, gave the Devils a 90-82 lead that seemed to provide the spread needed to hold on. After Williams and George eventually fouled out and several missed freethrows once the Bears were forced to foul, Roman Gilliam came in cold but iced the victory with two clean freethrows in the closing seconds.

Jackson led Truett with 28 points on the night, while Meau Jones had 16 points and Brandon Hosely 15. Travis Ellison also had eight and Scotty Thomas five.

For Summer Hill, Davis finished with a season-high 23 points, while White had 19, George a dozen, Fortenberry seven and Waters six. Getting in the act also was Brandon Harris with six, Williams five, Smith four and King three. Marcus Henderson, Jeff Hawkins and Gilliam all finished with two points each.

Summer Hill will now face another tough task in South Georgia Tech, who has started out the season at 5-1 and is ranked in the Top 25 in the country. The Blue Devils are 0-3 all-time against the Jets in a 7:30pm tilt inside the "Hangar" on the campus of SGTC in Americus.

Summer Hill Lady Devils 70 Truett McConnell Lady Bears 62...

Cartersville, GA - In the first game of the evening, the Lady Devils opened their season with a 70-62 win over the Truett Lady Bears. After falling behind by as many as 13 in the early going, the Lady Devils settled down and began to dominate the flow of the game. By half-time Truett found themselves down 33-31, then couldn't contain the Lady Devil's inside presence. The size difference allow Summer Hill's girls to balance the offense out in order to pull away for a double-digit lead in the latter stages of the game.

Melissa Winters and Mattatha Brunson both had 12 for Summer Hill (1-0), while Shameka Doxie, Leah Kessenich and Shakenda Stallings all had nine. Shannon Hanson and Tamera Watkins had seven and six, respectively, as Chaunte Byers had four and Shagera Irwin and Tiesha Jackson each collected one point in the victory.

The Lady Devils will also be on the road at South Georgia Tech this Saturday where they tip off at 5:30pm.

Summer Hill Blue Devils (blue squad) 73 Clayton State Club Team 63...

Cartersville, GA - The Blue squad led early, then bogged down in a muck of turnovers and ill-advised shots. Despite playing less than capable basketball, the Men in Blue only trailed by one at the half to a good shooting Clayton State team.

After regrouping,  applying some strong pressing defense to establish control in the seconf half, the Devils were able to cool Clayton off and begin to pull away down the stretch.

Nagee Smith led all scorers with 27 points, while Darrell Waters had 11. Brieon Brazier finished with 10, while Jarmond Bailey had seven, Demetrius Metcalf six, Jamie King four and Gary Warner three. Brice Kellog, Ken Shaw and Ben Pierre all had two, while Isaiah Riobe got one point in the win. The Devils blue squad moved to 2-3 on the year.
