FW: Chattahoochee Tech basketball team escapes Georgia Northwestern Tech, 83-78...

Chattahoochee Tech Club basketball team claims road victory…

ROSSVILLE, GA -- Chattahoochee Tech proved to be road warriors against Georgia Northwestern Tech, as they defeated the Mustangs 83-78 at the Rossville Athletic Center on last Saturday afternoon.

The victory improved the Golden Eagles' record in the TCSGAA Conference to 2-0. They are 15-7 overall this season.

The two teams tied five times early in their contest, which was played Saturday, the last time at 12-all with 13:51 remaining in the half. Georgia Northwestern broke the tie with a bucket, but CTC quickly answered with a 3-pointer by Mark Christmas for a 15-14 lead. Christmas added another 3-pointer a minute later and the Golden Eagles never trailed again.

By halftime, the Golden Eagles had stretched their lead to 12 points, 42-30. But Northwest would not go quietly on its home court and responded with a couple of 3-pointers during a 12-4 run, to close to 46-42 almost five minutes into the second half. The Golden Eagles responded with a full court press that helped trigger an 11-4 run, the last point courtesy of a foul shot by Robert Broderick, and the visitors were up 55-46.

Each time Northwestern cut into the score, CTC answered with a clutch shot. A basket by Richard Davis increased the CTC lead to 74-60 at the 8-minute mark. But, the Mustangs fought back with several hustle plays and baskets in the paint. Several Golden Eagle miscues gave the Mustangs more scoring opportunities and the game tightened. With 20 seconds remaining, the Mustangs had a three-point shot attempt to tie it at 81, but it was just off. After the rebound, CTC's Jullian Butts was fouled with 10 ticks showing. He sank both free throws to help the Golden Eagles escape the RAC Center with its second conference win.

Christmas led scorers for CTC with 17 points and Omarr Prewitt grabbed 12 rebounds. Perie Finley tallied 27 points for Northwestern with Wilson gathering eight rebounds.

The Golden Eagles' next game will be on the road at Morris Brown College on Friday, followed by another TCSGAA road game at West Georgia Tech in Carrollton on Saturday. CTC will finally return home on Friday February 5th when they host West Georgia Tech.

Notes: CTC was 31-of-71 from the field while Northwestern was 30-of-59. CTC hit 13-of-18 free throws, compared with 14-of-20 by Northwestern. CTC turned the ball over 16 times while Northwestern turned it over 21 times. The Golden Eagles grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and 20 defensive ones. Northwestern was credited with 10 offensive rebounds and 26 defensive ones.
